NORTH CAROLINA: Former NBA player Anthony Morrow has been arrested for kidnapping and strangling a woman. Morrow is charged with assault on a female, assault by strangulation, communication of threats and second-degree kidnapping in Charlotte, according to Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office arrest records.

For those crimes, Morrow was arrested and jailed on Friday, February 10, and released two days later on $15,000 bail, according to an Associated Press report. The victim was apparently dating Morrow at the time of the assault.

According to Charlotte-based news channel WSOC-TV, the former player allegedly strangled the woman by squeezing his hands around her neck and had been hitting her multiple times with her fists in her uptown Queen apartment. Why did Anthony Morrow arrested?

Morrow’s attorneys denied the allegations to the Charlotte outlet on Friday, March 3. His lawyer said: “He has faith in our justice system and is fully confident that a review of the evidence will reveal that he is not guilty.”

Anthony Morrow is a Charlotte native who attended Charlotte Latin School before going to Georgia Tech and then embarking on his NBA career. The 37-year-old was named North Carolina’s ‘Mr Basketball’ in 2004 while playing at his high school. Morrow played nine seasons in the NBA after signing as an undrafted player with the Warriors following his college career at Georgia Tech.


He spent time with the Warriors, Nets, Hawks, Mavericks, Pelicans, Thunder, Bulls and Trail Blazers, though he never played a game with Portland once the team released him during the 2017-18 preseason. He started the best 47 games of his career with the Nets in 2010-11. Throughout his career, Morrow played in 564 games, averaging 9.4 points per game, 2.2 rebounds and a shooting rate of 44.7% (FG) and 41.7% (3PT).

Morrow returned to his home in Charlotte following the conclusion of his NBA career.
