Carlos Chacon Wiki -Carlos Chacon Biography

CALIFORNIA: A California plastic surgeon named Carlos Chacon is accused of killing Megan Espinoza, who died during a boob job. Chacón reportedly ‘left’ the room to tend to other patients while Espinoza lay dying on the operating table.

Espinoza, 36, suffered a heart attack in December 2018 while undergoing breast augmentation surgery at the Divino Surgery Center in Bonita, San Diego, according to the DailyMail. Chacón was initially charged with manslaughter, but murder charges were later added after prosecutors said they found additional evidence that his carelessness was to blame for her death. On Monday, April 10, Chacón appeared in court and pleaded not guilty to the second-degree murder charge.

Charges on Carlos Chacon

District Attorney Gina Darvas testified that Chacón allegedly hesitated to dial 911 for more than three hours, forbade his staff from doing so, and left the operating room to care for four additional patients while Espinoza lay dying, according to DailyMail.

Darvas stated: “You cannot be providing life-saving treatment to the victim at the table when she is in your practice seeing other patients. We found that to be extremely egregious.” Espinoza, a mother of two, said Chacón hired an unqualified nurse to administer the anesthetic in an effort to increase income.

The arrest affidavit claimed that Espinoza suffered a heart attack in the middle of surgery at approximately 2:30 p.m. m., but Chacón forgot to contact the emergency services for help. The document stated: “Chacón made a conscious decision to prevent others from providing emergency life-saving efforts on at least 7 occasions,” according to DailyMail.

Chacón also allegedly instructed his staff to hide his condition and the true circumstances of her husband, Moisés Espinoza. Darvas testified in court that although Chacón called two doctors for guidance on what to do, he did not fully disclose what had occurred.

One of the doctors advised him to dial 911 at 5:03 p.m.; however, he actually didn’t do it until 5:24 p.m. m., more than three hours after the patient suffered cardiac arrest. Darvas said Chacón made the “intentional decision” to perform the procedure with a nurse who lacked the necessary anesthetic training, according to DailyMail.

Prior to his court appearance on Monday, April 10, Chacón had been arrested at his place of employment, and despite prosecutors requesting $5 million bail, Chacón’s bail was only set at $500,000. Chacón will not be allowed to leave California after he is released and he will have to give his passport to his lawyer. The criminal charges Chacón faces must also be disclosed to prospective patients, and Chacón needs state approval 72 hours before performing surgery.
