Chris Thomas Wiki – Chris Thomas Biography

UTAH: Elizabeth Smart’s publicist, Chris Thomas has written a new book revealing details about Elizabeth’s kidnapping and the media circus that ensued with it. In his soon-to-be-published book “Unexpected,” Thomas talks about the struggles the Smart family went through during the nine months she was missing and the efforts that were made to search for the teenager.

Elizabeth Ann Smart was abducted at the young age of 14 on June 5, 2002, at knifepoint by Brian David Mitchell from her home in the Federal Heights neighborhood of Salt Lake City, Utah. Mitchell and her wife, Wanda Barzee, held her captive for nine months outside Salt Lake City and later in San Diego County, California. Mitchell, who claimed to be a religious preacher, repeatedly raped and physically abused her. Fortunately, she survived and was discovered in Sandy, Utah, approximately 18 miles from her home.

Chris Thomas, whom Elizabeth describes as ‘like a big brother’, served as the Smarts’ publicist after she was kidnapped. In his new book, he has revealed what really happened behind the scenes as the search for the missing teen continued, and the media spotlight was on the entire case.

Chris Thomas Wrote about kidnapping of Elizabeth

Thomas, who handled the family’s media communications but had never met Elizabeth before she went missing, shares in her book the first time he saw the teen after she was rescued from the police station. “She has puffy sunburned cheeks, tightly braided blonde pigtails and she’s wearing a gray top that looks like it’s sewn from sheets,” he wrote. “A frayed rope serves as her belt, holding up her dirty, well-worn, oversized jeans,” he added. He also describes how Elizabeth’s father, Ed, was extremely angry that detectives questioned her after they rescued the teenager.

Thomas also shared the moment Elizabeth was reunited with her siblings after months of being away from them. “All of her brothers, except for four-year-old William, immediately hug her,” Thomas said. William was too young to recognize her in the devastating condition she found herself in.

The case attracted the interest of the nation and the media, which is why various stories and conspiracies circulated about it. In his book, Thomas also shares information about how the family reacted when the media published a story accusing a family member of being involved in Elizabeth’s kidnapping, which echoed the JonBenet Ramsey case.

As this news broke, Thomas recalled the JonBenet Ramsey case and how the family went underground and sent his attorney to respond to the media. He remembers thinking that the Smarts needed to ‘do the opposite’. So the family, though devastated by the accusation, decided to bravely face the media.

Thomas also talks about the grueling schedules he and his team followed during that time. The team is working at least 20 hour days as they try to keep up the momentum to keep the media spotlight on the search for the teen. He said his day would start at 3:30 a.m. m., when they would contact cable and network television shows before preparing Elizabeth’s parents, Ed and Lois, as well as other family members, beginning at 4:30 a.m. m. for his interviews, which were scheduled to start at 5:00 a.m. m. until 10 am They would then regroup for an 11 am press conference with authorities, followed by an hour of one-on-one interviews with members of the print media.Read More…..
