A youth pastor is in jail and out of a job after he allegedly filmed girls in his church bathroom. Greenville County, South Carolina, deputies said their Greenwood County counterparts gave them information following that office’s separate investigation that led to warrants and the arrest of Daniel Kellan Mayfield, 35, on charges which include five counts of first-degree sexual exploitation of a minor and one count of voyeurism.

Charges on Daniel Kellan Mayfield

“Investigators have learned that Mayfield installed and recorded video inside the women’s restroom inside the church on at least three occasions, dating back to July 2022,” authorities said. “Investigators believe that Daniel Mayfield acted alone and have no reason to believe that anyone from the church was aware of the illegal activity and will add that he has fully cooperated with the GCSO’s investigation.”

Gowensville Baptist Church said it fired Mayfield. “On May 27, 2023, First Baptist Gowensville leadership became aware of an incident of moral misconduct perpetrated by one of our staff members,” the church posted on its front page. “The appropriate authorities were immediately notified and the employee was terminated from his position.

Greenville County deputies said Mayfield was arrested in the Spartanburg County community of Boiling Springs. Online records show that Mayfield remains locked up at the Greenville County Detention Center. A judge has yet to set bail. Captain Josh Hood of the Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office public information office told Law&Crime that Mayfield had been arrested in a similar case, although this time it involved an adult victim.
