According to a university statement, Franco Medina and Sergio Palomino Ruiz, both students at the Stern School of Business, had gone to Puerto Rico for a short vacation with other classmates. “NYU grieves today with the family, loved ones and friends of these students, whose lives ended tragically, suddenly and far too soon,” the university stated.

“They were good-hearted people and unfortunately they were in the wrong place at the wrong time,” classmate Nick Mica said, according to ABC 7. “They were bystanders and unfortunately this tragic event happened to them: they didn’t want it, they didn’t see it. , they had just finished finals and went on vacation,” said another classmate, Connie Luc.
