Charges on  James Meek

In an unsealed letter to Meek’s defense attorneys, the Justice Department stated that the girl, identified as IDENTIFIED JUVENILE 2, told investigators in a recorded interview that she discussed her age with Meek when she was 16, according to the Daily Mail. It’s unclear how long the two had been texting before she allegedly told Meek how old she was.

The girl allegedly told the FBI that she felt “pressured” to provide sexually explicit images by an account believed to belong to Meek and other men. According to the Department of Justice, several of Meek’s devices allegedly contained images of young people engaging in sexual activity, as well as numerous chat sessions with users having sexually explicit conversations and expressing support for child sexual abuse. According to the Daily Beast, the department acquired a search warrant for Meek’s iCloud, which had backup copies of two of his devices, as well as a screenshot of one of the sexual conversations. Authorities also found an Apple laptop with “approximately 90 images and videos of child pornography.”
