FLORIDA: A student who died during the spring break chaos in Miami Beach was honored by his brother, who described him as a dedicated scholar and “warrior.” Jordan Idahosa , 21, was one of two people killed after being shot around 10:40 p.m. m. at night on Friday, March 17, in the South Beach neighborhood of the city.

In just over a day, another person was fatally shot and took his last breath at 3am. m. on Sunday, March 19, just four blocks from where Idahosa was killed. The suspected gunman behind both shootings has since been detained.

Idahosa was with his friends at Ocean Drive and 7th Street when the incident occurred. “My friend had called me to see where he was and I turned around for about 10 seconds,” Javon Johnson, a friend from Idahosa, told WALB. “After that, all you heard was gunshots. I really didn’t know who he was. I couldn’t see anything.”

Jordan Idahosa was during Miami spring break

Video showed terrified diners in a restaurant watching at least six shots being fired. As they climbed inside, Idahosa’s body was left lying on the road on the famous Art Deco street. Authorities responded to the scene within seconds.

“On Friday at 10:41 p.m., officers heard the sound of gunshots near 7 Street and Ocean Drive and found two men with gunshot wounds on 7 Street. Both men were transported to Jackson Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Unit Memorial,” the Miami Police Department tweeted. “One of the men died at the hospital and the other is in critical condition. Officers took one man into custody and recovered three firearms at the scene. Detectives are investigating what led up to the shooting incident.”

Police then updated their report to say the suspect was in custody and instead of three, four firearms had been seized. “UPDATE: Miami Beach Police have a male in custody, who is fully cooperating with the investigation, and were able to recover four firearms from the scene. MBPD has confirmed this to be an isolated incident.”

Idahosa’s brother, Sammy, told WALB that his sister was “a special guy.” “He went from being homeschooled to being a scholar,” Sammy said. “There are millions and millions of memories of me and Jordan. We grew up three years apart and pretty much did everything together. He’s like my twin brother.” He said he and his family were deeply affected by Idahosa’s death. “Jordan was the first Idahosa to leave us.
