Robert Helphrey body found after 16 years

Helphrey was reported missing in 2006 after he was last seen leaving Peggy O’Neill’s Bar in Palm Harbor around 12 a.m. on May 22. The bar is reportedly across the street from the Thirsty Marlin, where Helphrey worked as a general manager. On Thursday, April 13, his car with his remains was found about six minutes from the same pub, the outlet noted.

Authorities previously told the publication that Helphrey was driving to meet a friend the day of his disappearance, but he never made it to the scene. Brian St Arnold, a childhood friend of Helphrey’s and owner of the Thirsty Marlin restaurant, told Fox 13 that the latter was working there the night he disappeared. St Arnold said he hopes the discovery clears up all the rumors surrounding the disappearance of his friend. He also shared that he believes Helphrey made a wrong turn on the night of May 22, 2006 and ended up in the lake. “It’s unbelievable that no one saw him that night. Nobody heard anything. He did not yell for help,” he said. Following the latest discovery, St Arnold received a call from a member of the Sunshine State Sonar team.

“There have been many mysteries over the years. A lot of people have asked us, ‘Have you heard what happened to Bob? Has anyone found…’ and about a year ago, this guy came to us and said he was going to be looking with a sonar team and trying to find Bob and he gave us an interview, he called me a couple of days later and said: ‘I will find it. Give me some time. He did it,” revealed St Arnold.

Sunshine State Sonar and Recon Dive Recovery reportedly helped the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office locate Helphrey’s vehicle. Volunteer organizations are dedicated to combing national missing persons databases for information on missing persons. “We started looking at the person’s work address, their home address, their life patterns where they like to hang out, the latest cell phone pings,” Ken Fleming of Recon Dive Recovery told the publication.

The groups, which had been working on Helphrey’s case for a year, use sonar and magnetic equipment to help locate vehicles underwater and were able to identify Helphrey’s vehicle despite zero visibility conditions. Fleming said he expects the man’s family to close after 16 years. “When the family member comes over and gives you a hug and it’s bittersweet, you know, they’re glad you’re there. They wish you weren’t,” he said.Read More……..
