Robert Pannell a man allegedly murdered a hotel worker, and while investigators are still looking into what caused this, they said it came after a couple “failed to give him” a cigarette lighter. McCracken County, Kentucky, deputies booked Robert Pannell, 55, into the local jail on charges including murder, records show.

According to authorities, they received 911 calls Saturday at approximately 9:48 a.m. of a possible active shooter at a hotel in the city of Paducah. A responding officer found a female victim on the first floor of the hotel, they said. She was described as having multiple gunshot wounds to her head and body. A Paducah police officer found a possible suspect and detained him in the parking lot, authorities said.

“During subsequent investigation, it was discovered that the suspect, Robert Pannell, had assaulted a man and a woman in the hotel parking lot after the couple failed to give Pannell a lighter,” deputies said. “Pannell then entered the hotel with a gun and walked down a hallway. Pannell then shot the female victim, firing multiple rounds indiscriminately.

Several people were in close proximity to Pannell when he indiscriminately discharged his firearm. At some point, Pannell threw his gun into the hotel lobby. Pannell was a guest at the hotel, but it has not yet been determined what led to his actions. Detectives are currently and will continue to investigate.”

The victim was taken to a local hospital, but officers said they were keeping her alive for organ donation. “At the family’s request, the McCracken County Sheriff’s Office is not releasing her name,” authorities wrote. “MCSO asks everyone to keep the family and friends of the victim in their prayers.”

They announced later Saturday that she died. That leaves authorities with a defendant, a tragic accusation and a motive not publicly announced. Authorities described Pannell as being from Palm Coast, Florida. It is not clear why he was in Paducah, they said.

In addition to the murder charge, Pannell remains locked up for first degree assault, fourth degree assault (with no visible injuries), first degree wanton endangerment, third degree assault (of a police officer or probation officer), conduct threatening, disorderly in the second degree, and resisting arrest.Read More…..
