Rodney Staude Wiki – Rodney Staude  Biography

An Iowa father and his daughter face first-degree murder charges after they left a newborn boy to die alone on the side of a snowy road, in a state where Safe Haven laws would have immunized them from prosecution had they left the baby in an authorized location. Megan K. Staude  25, gave birth to a baby boy at home in February, only to discard the helpless newborn with the help of her father, Rodney A. Staude, 64, the Department of Health announced Monday. Norwalk Police.

“On March 8, the Norwalk Police Department was contacted with concerns about the safety of a child in Norwalk,” authorities said. KCCI reported that Megan Staude’s co-workers raised those concerns that day. They realized that she was no longer pregnant and were suspicious, and at least one neighbor was surprised but she was not. “Honestly, he was pretty horrified. I’m not really surprised though, just the vibe they gave off,” Chris Hentschel told KCCI. “They were a little weird.”

The report noted that the residence where Megan Staude gave birth is considered “unsafe to occupy.” Investigators allege that Rodney Staude helped his daughter abandon the victim in a ditch along Delaware Street in Warren County, instead of taking the baby to a safe haven, as defined by Iowa law:

In a phone interview with Law & Crime Tuesday morning, Norwalk Police Chief Greg Staples said it has been a “difficult investigation” and “emotional” for all involved. “Hopefully, justice is being served for the baby who had no say in what happened to him,” Staples said, crediting officers for “going the extra mile and solving a case of this magnitude so quickly.”

Staples said a cadaver dog named Montana, with the Iowa SAR K9 search and rescue group, found the baby covered in snow. “Safe haven laws exist for a reason,” Staples emphasized. “It is a shame that because Safe Haven laws were not applied in this case we have the death of a newborn and two people in jail accused of the most serious crime that exists.”

The police chief hoped that by shedding light on this tragic case he would ensure that nothing like this would happen again. “If there’s one good thing that comes out of this investigation, it’s that someone pregnant will see this story and her baby will have a different life than this baby,” Staples said.Read More…..
