A 12-year-old girl has died after being the unwanted target in a drive-by shooting in Hartford, Connecticut, Thursday night. Secret Pierce died at 7 a.m. local time Friday morning after being in critical and unstable condition, the Hartford Police Department said in a press release obtained by PEOPLE.

Pierce was sitting in a parked car and was shot in the head and abdomen during the incident in which three other men were injured, police said.

The men were walking along a street when a moving car fired at them, seriously wounding an 18-year-old in the group, according to authorities. The other two men, ages 16 and 23, were taken in a private vehicle to nearby St. Francis Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, NBC Connecticut reported.

Secret Pierce was shot and killed during driving

“We think that was probably the intended target along with the other two men,” Hartford police Lt. Aaron Boisvert told the station. “We don’t believe the 12-year-old boy had anything to do with this at this point in the investigation, very tragic, very unfortunate, disgusting.” Detectives are now scanning surveillance video from the area in hopes of getting more information about the suspect’s car, which fled the scene after the shooting.

Two of the victims, both male, ages 16 and 23, walked to St. Francis Hospital and sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Boisvert said his injuries “appear to be lacerations at this point.” None of the victims have been publicly named. Police believe the three men were the targets of the shooting. The incident was captured on surveillance footage, which has not been made public, and police are working to determine the shooter’s vehicle. “We have video of a vehicle flying by and heading north on Huntington Street when gunshots erupted,” Boisvert said. “We are actively working to figure out what vehicle that was so we can start looking for it.”Read More…..
