Shannon Parsons Wiki – Shannon Parsons Biography

A science teacher has been banned from the classroom indefinitely after having sex with a 16-year-old student. While teaching in Northfleet, Kent, Shannon Parsons texted the boy saying, ‘Oh I love you!’; ‘Do you want an elevator? X’; and ‘I know we talked about getting together this week, but I think [blank] would probably tell her dad… I want to see you soon x x x though.’ In a “calculated and motivated” move, the 35-year-old also befriended the boy’s parents and worked to make both the boy, known as Student A, and her parents dependent on her.

Parsons was convicted of having a relationship with the student and sentenced to 12 months’ imprisonment, suspended for two years, at Maidstone Crown Court in March 2021. The court heard that the sexual relationship took place one afternoon at his home while his parents were at work.

Parsons also received a five-year sexual harm prevention order and must sign on the sex offender registry for 10 years. In a Teaching Regulation Agency professional conduct hearing that followed his conviction, he was indefinitely banned from teaching in schools, sixth form colleges, youth accommodation and children’s homes in England.

In reaching his decision, the panelists concluded that Parsons focused on the impact his behavior had on his life rather than the student’s life and therefore had not shown real insight. Their report stated: “There was no evidence to suggest that Ms. Parsons was acting under extreme duress and, in fact, the panel found that Ms. Parsons’ actions were calculated and motivated.”

Shannon Parsons accused of having sex with student

Ms. Parsons stated that she forged a friendship with Student A and her parents. ‘[She] offered support to Student A; Student A stated that both Student A and her mother became dependent on her. “Ms. Parsons asserted that the language used between her and Student A reflected the language and familiarity she used with Student A’s mother.”

The report stated that she accepted that the language was ‘inappropriate’ and far exceeded ‘the limits of her role’, adding: ‘Ms Parsons also explained that, having never witnessed a healthy relationship, for someone to manage emotionally unwell or having a stable parent to guide her, she could not cope with the position of trust she was given.

“Furthermore, the panel found that Ms. Parsons had not fully understood the inappropriateness of her actions, as evidenced by her comment that the “relationship [with student A] was platonic” and that “they were friends.” . Parsons sent a letter to the inquiry, claiming that she “unknowingly” made things worse. She wrote: ‘It was clear in my mind at the time that our relationship was platonic.

‘By inadvertently and unconsciously imprinting my own negative experiences on my teaching, I have made things worse, for myself and my students. ‘This was dangerous and I recognize it now. My responsibilities as a teacher became blurred: I wanted to help and do what was right for the students, but by not being accountable as an adult, the relationships forged were not the right ones.

“I really struggled to see the difference between right and wrong at this point.” Relaying the panel’s ruling, Alan Meyrick, TRA’s chief executive and speaking on behalf of the Secretary of State, echoed the panel’s findings that a review period would be inappropriate and would permanently bar him from teaching.

Mr. Meyrick added: “In view of the seriousness of the allegations found against her, I have decided that Shannon Parsons shall have no right to seek restoration of her eligibility to teach.” Parsons has 28 days from the date she receives notice of the order to appeal the hearing decision in Superior Court.Read More…..
