VIRGINIA: Bruce Callahan, one of two inmates who escaped from prison last week in Virginia, was captured Monday, May 8. According to police, he sought medical attention at a local university and was detained by Longwood authorities. The convict showed up at Lancer Park, a 50-acre residential community owned by Longwood University, and pulled an outdoor fire alarm, according to university officials.

Charges on Bruce Callahan

Authorities reported that Callahan was “injured and in poor health” when he turned himself in to police and requested medical attention. Farmville police also assisted in the arrest. However, school officials did not disclose the extent of the injuries he sustained. On April 30, Callahan along with another inmate, Alden Marin-Sotelo, 26, broke out of the Piedmont Regional Jail in Farmville.

The latest convict was arrested in Mexico on Thursday, May 4, and was booked for killing a North Carolina sheriff in 2022, ABC News reports. Meanwhile, Callahan was arrested on federal drug and weapons charges. “[Both escaped inmates] Marin-Sotelo and Callahan were federal detainees with no area affiliations,” the sheriff’s office said. In an unrelated escape incident, four inmates managed to escape their cells and climbed through the ceiling.

The incident took place at the Raymond Detention Center in Mississippi, which was reportedly understaffed. However, one of these fugitives was killed in a shootout and was serving time for killing a man and stealing his motorcycle as he fled, MEAWW reports.Read More……
