A woman is accused of brutally abusing a baby, leaving him with brain hemorrhages and other injuries, according to Wichita Falls, Texas police. Adrian Nichole Vetter, 22, is in the local jail on $1 million bail for injuries to a child, online records show.

Officials said the victim, a 10-month-old boy, was taken to United Regional Hospital, where staff discovered he had two brain bleeds, according to KFDX. He was rushed to Cook Children’s Medical Center in the city of Fort Worth. An emergency room doctor told investigators the injuries to the boy’s head indicated shaken baby syndrome.

Charges on Adrian Nichole Vetter

Vetter, who had been watching the boy, claimed he had a seizure and fell backwards Monday, hitting his head on the wood vinyl floor, authorities say. But Dr. Elizabeth Peeler, a child abuse pediatrician who specializes in forensic pediatrics, said the boy, who was in critical condition, was having seizures from severe head trauma. She said the injuries were from physical abuse.

After Vetter was confronted with the consistencies in her story, Vetter said she had been arguing with her husband over the phone about canceling her wedding, police said. In addition, the baby had also refused to take a nap that Monday around 11 a.m., an officer said. Around 3 p.m., she lost her temper, grabbed him by the crib and slammed the back of his head against the side rail in an attempt to stop him from crying, she allegedly said. In this version of events, she led him into the hallway, where she slammed his head against the wall with force. The baby started gasping for air, she allegedly said.

According to police, she described how she carried him into the living room, put him on the floor, went to the kitchen for milk, and returned to find him unconscious and not breathing. Dr. Peeler, however, said that it seemed that Vetter was downplaying what happened; Vetter was believed to have struck the baby’s head against the crib and wall multiple times, not just once each.

Physical damage included spinal cord injuries and severe brain trauma, police said. Peeler said she didn’t know if the baby would survive, but she said her prognosis was very poor, according to police. The doctor called the abuse a “near fatal event.”

The baby’s mother said Vetter had been caring for her son for two weeks, police say. She acknowledged that the defendant had a temper, but she had “never seen her take it out on the children, only on her own dogs.”Read More……..
