ARIZONA: Haunting body camera video captured the moment an officer shot and killed a man after he allegedly fatally stabbed his wife in a Phoenix home on March 6, 2023. The stabbing victim, identified as Monica Castro, 40, died after being taken to the hospital, and the attacker Anthony Castro 40, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Phoenix police responded to a 911 call about an attack on women. “There is a woman stabbed. Two women,” the 911 caller reports. “Two females, stabbed inside the house.” In the 911 conversation, the children can be heard as the woman yells at them to come inside. After yelling at the children to come into the home, the 911 caller went on to tell the officer that he answered what he knew. “Okay, who stabbed them?” asked the dispatcher. “I don’t know, she said the guy stopped stabbing them,” he explained.

Charges on Anthony Castro

On March 6, Phoenix police officers investigated a fatal case of domestic violence in a Laveen neighborhood. According to the Phoenix Police Department, officers responded to numerous domestic violence calls shortly before 6:00 p.m. m. and upon arrival they discovered an injured old woman outside the house and they were taking her away.

Police discovered a woman in the house, later found to be the suspect’s wife, Monica Castro, who had sustained serious stab wounds when the suspect held a knife in each of her hands. An officer issued several commands before shooting the suspect, who has since been identified as 40-year-old Anthony Castro, AZ Family reported.

In the video, two police officers can be seen entering the house and discovering a woman on the ground in the path of the door. “Crag outside! Crawl outside,” an officer yells at the woman. “It looks like three people were stabbed from the inside, they’re bleeding a lot,” says the other officer. Police instruct people to crawl outside while seeking shelter behind a truck. “Where is daddy?” asks an officer. “He was also stabbed? Who stabbed him?”

Later, as the officers approach the front door, they both notice Anthony, 40, kneeling behind a woman and holding two knives. “Don’t move! Don’t move!” an officer yells. “Get down, man! Don’t move! Get down!” according to the police. Anthony disobeyed his orders and continued to attack the woman. Gunshots can be heard on the body camera as a police officer shoots the man four times.

The injured woman was rescued by police after the shooting and walked away from the door. She was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries to her. An officer then returned to the home to rescue the second injured woman and Anthony’s wife, Monica, who was later pronounced dead at the hospital. Additional officers were seen at the residence and Anthony died at the scene. Police said they found the two knives he was holding on him.
