Ava Conklin Wiki – Ava Conklin Biography

NEW YORK. A 19-year-old college student spent her last moments sending a joyous selfie to her family before she was struck by a drowsy driver as she waited for the bus at a Queens stop on Saturday, June 24. Ava Conklin was waiting at a picnic stop with her younger sister in Central Park when she was struck by a white SUV at the intersection of Rockaway Beach Boulevard and Beach 108 Street.

Conklin was immediately transported to Brookdale Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries. Authorities say the 29-year-old driver of that 2021 Hyundai Venue was heading west on Rockaway Beach Blvd when he fell asleep at the wheel. He was traveling in the right lane when he came to an end and turned onto a sidewalk. The driver plowed into three metal benches, where Conklin was sitting waiting for her younger sister’s bus to arrive. The driver was stopped by police, who later questioned him before releasing him without charge, according to an NYPD spokesperson. However, he could still face charges while the investigation continues.

Ava Conklin cause of death

Conklin was first identified by her 14-year-old sister Peyton, who got off an MTA bus to meet her older sister, but she found herself surrounded by the aftermath of the accident. She recognized her sister by her bag and the back of her neck on the ground. “All I could do was scream,” Peyton told the Daily News, adding: “A bunch of people tried to calm me down, but I told them, ‘Don’t try to calm me down! That’s my sister!’” Two firefighters finally pulled her from the scene. Conklin was a psychology major who had just finished her first year at a Vermont university. She lived in Hell’s Kitchen with her mother.

On Saturday, Conklin sent a joyous selfie to her family around 2:14 p.m. m., moments before the van struck and killed her. “How does four minutes change your whole life?” her heartbroken stepmother, Jennifer Duffy, said Sunday. The devastated mother said Peyton called her right away, but “the call got hung up and I knew something had happened.” She got an immediate callback and a man’s voice said, “Her daughter of hers just got hit by a car,” and then she hung up. Ella Duffy said that she couldn’t believe the driver had fallen asleep, as she would have had to swerve from the cars to hit Conklin. “Logically it doesn’t make sense,” she said.

The devastated family described Conklin as a bright soul, who she enjoyed listening to Mac Miller, MF Doom and Tyler the Creator. Conklin, the second oldest of five biological children and stepchildren, made sure to do nice “girl things” with her younger siblings. “She was always the emotional mediator in the family,” Peyton said, adding: “I idolized her.
