Brandon Gilliam was killed and a woman seriously injured when both were reportedly shot in front of some of their children during an apparent home invasion Sunday night on the northeast side of Columbus, according to police.

Officers were dispatched at 11:53 p.m. on Sunday after a shooting was reported at a home in the 6100 block of Laurelwood Court in a residential area west of Cleveland Avenue, according to a news release from the Columbus Division of Police.

Who killed Brandon Gilliam?

Brandon, 28, was pronounced dead at 12:04 a.m. m. in the place. A 28-year-old woman, whom police did not identify in the news release, was taken by doctors to a nearby hospital, where she remains in critical condition.

Police determined during an initial investigation that Gilliam and the woman were at home with their five young children when an unidentified suspect broke into the home. Some of the children witnessed the shooting and helped her mother call 911 for help after she was shot, police said.

Police have not identified a suspect in the fatal home invasion. All five children were taken into the custody of Franklin County Children’s Services after the shooting, said Terry Kelley, a detective with the Columbus Police Division’s Homicide Unit.
