Investigators have a 28-year-old suspect, Bryan Christopher Kohberger, in custody in connection with the Nov. 13 slaying of four University of Idaho students.

Kohberger is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Criminal Justice and Criminology at Washington State University, a source close to the case told Levy.

Court documents show that Kohberger was denied bail and ordered to be extradited to Idaho. The document is silent on the nature of the allegations against him.


The suspect was arrested in Pennsylvania, marking a breakthrough in the case that has been under investigation for over a month with a host of theories and suspicions surfacing surrounding the gruesome murders.

Ethan Chapin, 20, Madison Mogen, 21, Xana Kernodle, 20, and Kaylee Goncalves, 21, were stabbed to death in their rented off-campus home in Idaho as they slept in the early hours of the day.

According to the Moscow Police Department, the killer killed the young students using “a weapon sharp as a knife” and believes it to be a targeted killing, reports the New York Post.


The bodies were found inside the rental house by a friend of the slain students, who called 911 to the scene on Kings Road. The broader investigation was carried out by local Moscow police, joined by state police and the FBI, the New York Post reports.

Authorities did not release important details of the investigation to the public while it was ongoing. Collecting thousands of pieces of evidence, the police department reviewed nearly 2,000 leads related to the heinous murders of the students.

According to the Daily Mail, the official said the crime scene they arrived at was “the worst they had ever seen”. Photos shared by the news outlet showed blood from the scene oozing down the structure of the rental house.


The University was rocked by the gruesome murder that took place in November at a time when students were going home for Thanksgiving break.

“Xena was so happy and loved and she breaks my heart,” Xana’s sister Jazzmin Kernodle said in a text message. “She was so cheerful, and she always made up a room. She made me such a proud big sister, and I wish I had more time with her.

She had so much life left to live,” Jazzmin said, as she told the Associated Press about her family’s anxious wait for updates on the investigation. .


The four murdered students were friends from school and were also members of sororities and fraternities. “Lucky girl to be around these people every day,” Goncalves wrote of Mogen in an Instagram photo shared hours before the grizzly killings. The duo Chapin and Kernodle seemed to be in a relationship.

According to the university, Mogen was a marketing senior from Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, and Goncalves was a general studies senior from Rathdrum, Idaho.
