The state of one of the officers is listed as critical. The suspect died in the ordeal outside the Old National Bank located in a downtown area near Slugger Field, Kentucky.

An investigation is underway into Sturgeon’s motive behind the shooting. Before the bank opened to the public, the suspect entered the bank at 8:30 a.m. m. and began shooting, according to the Louisville Metropolitan Police Department, the New York Post reported.

For three consecutive years, Sturgeon worked at the Old National Bank as a summer intern. In 2021, he joined the bank as a business development professional and eventually assumed the role of full-time associate and portfolio banker in 2022, according to his LinkedIn account.

In 2020, Sturgeon earned a Master of Science in Finance from the University of Alabama. Sturgeon’s father coached the University of Indianapolis men’s basketball team from 1992 to 2007 in five NCAA tournament appearances.

Witnesses to the bank shooting said they saw the suspect on the first floor of the bank building and began firing multiple shots from a “long assault rifle,” while one witness recalled the incident, saying, “He just started shooting “. shoot. I didn’t see his face. We were in the conference room. Whoever was next to me was shot, his blood is on me.” Responding officers fired at the lone gunman, according to witnesses, WHAS11 reported.
