Esther Wallace, the bushwalker who went missing nearly two weeks ago, has been found dead in the bushland in NSW’s Central West.

Police found the body of the 47-year-old woman at 4pm on Sunday, approximately two kilometers from where she was last seen in Federal Falls at the Mount Canobolas State Recreation Area.

On November 30, Wallace went for a bush walk with her boyfriend, heading up a steep hill around 1 a.m. m. with sandals. His partner raised the alarm around 8 a.m. and said that he had disappeared on the road.

NSW Police expressed concern to her mother that she was not an experienced hiker and that temperatures on Mount Canobolas were dropping below freezing while Wallace was missing.

Clothing, including a white coat, had been found during the search, although investigators had yet to confirm the connection to Wallace.

The large-scale search involved SES volunteers from across the state, local police, police air and mountain bike units, Rural Fire Service volunteers, and National Parks officials.

On November 30, it was reported that 47-year-old Esther Wallace became separated from a partner while hiking at the Mount Canobolas State Recreation Area.

Police found her body on Sunday at 4 p.m. as she searched the bushes where the woman was walking.

The death is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be prepared for the coroner.

The hiker and her friend walked to see the sunrise on Wednesday morning at 1 a.m. when they later separated.

Her partner raised the alarm at 8:30 am.

NSW Police were very concerned about the woman, that she was not an experienced hiker and it is possible that she was injured due to the terrain.

Some clothing was found, including a white jacket and a shoe print, but tests have not yet confirmed whether she was related to Ms Wallace.

A massive search took place for days, with police and emergency services combing the rugged bushland of the popular surveillance site.
