Three teenagers have been charged with murder after a 14-year-old boy was attacked and killed in Melbourne’s western suburbs. Ethan Hoac and his two friends were walking home from a train station in St Albans late on June 26 when a van approached them.
The car spun and struck the boy, before two men in face coverings armed with knives got out and stabbed the Braybrook College student to death.

Ethan’s friends were not injured during the incident and managed to escape. Emergency services were called, but Ethan died on the way to the hospital. Security camera footage released by Victoria Police showed Ethan and his friends running down a street near Ginifer Station around 10:45 p.m. m. of June 26.
On July 8, detectives arrested an 18-year-old Tarneit man, a 17-year-old Wyndham Vale boy and a 17-year-old Deer Park boy for the incident. “Search warrants were executed… at properties in Wyndham Vale, Deer Park and Fitzroy by detectives from the Homicide Squad, Gang Crime Squad, VIPER Taskforce and Yarra Crime Investigation Unit,” a police statement said.
The trio were due to appear at a Melbourne children’s court on Sunday. Hoac has been remembered by his loved ones as a “sweet and amazing friend” who attended Braybrook College in Braybrook.
