A man who is accused of raping a 21-year-old woman in East Harlem while wearing a T-shirt with a teddy bear on it already has a lengthy rap sheet, it has been reported. Geovanni Romero Gonzales, 26, was charged with rape, robbery, stalking and sexual assault and was taken into custody after being arrested at a Randalls Island shelter.

In an attempt to locate him, police released images of the man, believed to be homeless, wearing a black T-shirt with a teddy bear design on the front and carrying a Target shopping bag. He was handcuffed and led out of the New York Police Department’s Special Victims Division Tuesday night. It has since emerged that the suspect is already under investigation for exposing himself to a girl in a subway station, resisting arrest and drug charges.

Geovanni Romero Gonzales Accused of raping a girl

According to police, the 21-year-old woman was attacked at 1:40 a.m. Monday near East 111st Street and Second Avenue in Harlem, New York. The suspect first made unwanted advances and tried to chat her up on the street, and then Romero Gonzales chased her and allegedly raped her, police said. After the attack, she allegedly took her purse and snatched her cell phone before fleeing the scene.

The victim was taken to the hospital for medical attention. Romero Gonzales was found and arrested at the Randalls Island shelter Tuesday morning. When he was led to a police car to take him to court, González is said to have denied knowing anything about the attack.

According to NYDN, he said: ‘I don’t know, sir. I don’t know.’ This is not the first time that the alleged rapist has had a run-in with the law. González is currently facing two open criminal cases in Queens, New York.

He allegedly exposed himself and rubbed his genitals on a 15-year-old girl at the 7 train’s 82nd Street station in 2021, NYDN reports. And just recently, in January, he was charged with second-degree assault and harassment by threatening physical contact and resisting arrest.
