Police have arrested Hadis Haile , 42, accused of shooting his neighbor Raymond Howard, 78, in a dispute over a noise complaint, police told The Los Angeles Daily News. Other neighbors told police Howard was known to be loud and disruptive, KTLA reported.
Haile, who notified authorities of the shooting, is a 20-year resident of the apartment complex, according to the station. Sherman Oaks is a neighborhood about 10 miles northwest of downtown Los Angeles. Thousands of people die each year from firearm injuries in the US each year, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
“Firearms injuries are a serious public health problem,” officials said. “In 2020, there were 45,222 firearm-related deaths in the United States, that’s about 124 people who die from firearm-related injuries each day.” Firearm-related injuries were one of the leading causes of death for people ages 1 to 44 in 2020, the CDC reported.

A man was arrested Monday, February 13, on suspicion of fatally shooting one of his elderly neighbors in Sherman Oaks, Los Angeles police said. Neighbors said there was a dispute, apparently over the noise. Hadis Haile, 42, was arrested after shooting a 78-year-old man in the 14600 block of Moorpark Street, police said. The shooting happened around 3:15 a.m. m. in a stretch of Moorpark near Vesper Avenue, a neighborhood of apartment buildings and single-family homes north of Ventura Boulevard.
When the police arrived there after a report of gunshots, they found the victim on the street; He died on the spot. He was identified by police and the coroner’s office as Raymond Howard.
