CALIFORNIA: California parents whose son was killed in his car seat during a gang shooting are leaving town for good. Jasper Wu who was just a month shy of his second birthday, was killed by a stray gunshot while dozing in his car seat as his mother drove on I-880. Rival gangs Chopper City and Eddy Rock were having a shootout around 2 p.m.

The parents revealed that they feel unsafe living in the lawless city after the tragic death of their son, according to the Daily Mail. Police detained three people who were involved in the “battle” and closed the relationship with the Wu family. However, two years have passed and they still have not been sentenced. Jasper was pronounced dead at the nearby children’s hospital on November 6, 2021.

In an effort to “reduce recidivism,” Pamela Price, the Alameda County district attorney, is now advising her team of prosecutors not to pursue major charges in criminal cases. It follows that any criminal improvements that would have been imposed will likely not be made this time, thus shortening the prison time for Jasper’s killers. An Wu, Jasper’s mother, told ABC 7 in San Francisco that would be a bad idea, adding: “If that happens, what kind of message are we sending to the public?” She later added that she still “feels afraid” every time she drives through Oakland.

Three people faced murder charges in connection with Jasper’s murder. The defendants are Johnny Jackson, 28, Trevor Green, 22, and Ivory Bivins, 24. However, they have yet to face trial. The fourth gang member, who was also involved, was killed in another shootout before being taken into custody. Price hopes to “restore balance to sentencing and prevent recidivism” by barring prosecutors from coming up with “improvements,” according to an internal document obtained from her office. The Wu family has criticized her intentions, but Price has yet to respond.

Oakland is a short drive from San Francisco, where former District Attorney Chesa Boudin implemented some of the most sweeping changes in the country.
