A mother of four murdered along with her new lover was identified today as police question a man arrested for the double murder. Katie Higton 27, she was stabbed to death alongside her new boyfriend at her £90,000 home in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, on Monday morning.

Katie, a mental health nurse, had two children with the alleged killer: a girl, three, and a six-month-old boy. She had two older children from a previous relationship. West Yorkshire Police have placed a cordon around Harpe Inge, in the Dalton area of the city.

The street was still closed Tuesday morning, with five police cars still on the scene. A resident of the street behind Harpe Inge said: ‘I knew it was serious, with the air ambulance and forensics. They were out all day. A card left with flowers at the scene read: ‘RIP my dear. We love you. No more suffering.

Another said: ‘I’m so sorry about how things ended.’ A friend said that Katie was one of my best friends. She added: ‘She was a brilliant mother and a great nurse carer for the mentally ill. “I am heartbroken for her and hers four children of hers: the youngest child is only six months old.”

Detectives launched the murder investigation after police were called to the home on Harpe Inge at 9:53 a.m. m. from yesterday. Paramedics went to the home and found a man and a woman with multiple injuries. The man and woman were confirmed to have died at the scene.

A full police presence has been established at the address and nearby locations in Huddersfield while detailed forensic investigations are carried out. Detective Superintendent Marc Bowes, of the Major Investigation and Homicide Team, said: “This has clearly been an exceptionally serious crime and I can promise residents that a full investigation is underway into the murder of this man and this women”.

We are conducting extensive investigations at the scene and at other locations in the Dalton area as we investigate the circumstances of what happened. He added: ‘I am calling on anyone who has seen suspicious activity overnight or this morning at the property in Harpe Inge to contact us.
