Two suspects have been arrested in the death of a 6-year-old boy nearly two weeks after he was fatally shot while playing in the backyard of a Kansas home with his uncle and a 7-year-old cousin, police announced Thursday. Police said 20-year-old Lakevis Sloan and a 17-year-old boy were taken into custody Tuesday night as they were getting off a Greyhound bus in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. They were awaiting extradition, charged with second-degree murder in the May 3 shooting death of 6-year-old Sir’Antonio Brown. Charging documents show Sloan is also charged with aggravated child endangerment.

“These arrests don’t take away the pain, but they do bring some comfort,” said her godmother, Shyneisha Hill. Meanwhile, the police took advantage of the arrest to ask for help in locating a third, as yet unidentified suspect. “Don’t wait any longer, because we will arrest anyone who harbors or covers for this child killer,” Detective Mark Bundy said.

Police previously said the suspects came to the Kansas City neighborhood with the intent to attack someone, though they did not provide additional details. The spokesman for the Wyandotte County District Attorney’s office said he did not know if they had attorneys.

Hill believes they were after the boy’s uncle, whom she described as “in big trouble”. She was sleeping in her truck, she said, parking it in front of another relative’s house for the night. “No one really knows what meat is,” she said. “We’re really trying to figure out, like, how was he so serious? Whatever it is, was it so serious to ignore the lives of children?

The shots erupted when her own son, Qwamayne Frazier, was in the backyard playing with Sir’Antonio, whom her family called Sir, she said. The children’s homes are across the street and they attended the same school. After getting off the bus, they would change their clothes and run out to play. They were “just doing what they normally do, just playing, riding their bikes, jumping on the trampoline, running around the yard,” Hill said.Read More…….
