Authorities managed to identify Deleon in 2009 through the use of DNA technology. Investigators claim the break in the case came after new DNA evidence found on Deleon’s body led them to West, according to KENS5. According to investigators, West’s ex-wives said that he was a violent person. Her first spouse claimed that he repeatedly assaulted and raped her in the mere 30 days of her marriage.

“We have been suffering for over 40 years without knowing what happened to my sister,” Carol’s sister, Sandra Deleon, told the outlet. “The potential of what could have been, what could have been, will never be known.
