Authorities are searching for the suspect they say is responsible for the murder of an Arizona woman during a solo hike on a neighborhood trail Friday. Phoenix police say Lauren Heike was found dead by a passerby in an area not easily visible the day after they believe she was killed.

Who killed Lauren Heike?

Police say 29-year-old Lauren was “viciously” attacked from behind on a north Phoenix trail and “mortally wounded.” She suffered “trauma to her body”, although the exact cause of her death has not been revealed.

“She was beautiful inside and out,” Lauren’s mother, Lana Heike, said during a news conference with police on Wednesday. “She had such a kind heart. Everyone who knew her loved her. She was super fun. She was just a sweet little girl, all to us.”

“She was my little girl. I’m going to miss her terribly,” added Lauren’s father, Jeff Heike. “I just hope they can find who she did this to.” Police described her assailant as a man between 5 feet 8 inches and 6 feet tall. He was last seen wearing dark clothing and a backpack. A reason is being investigated.
