As crowds fled in fright after hearing gunshots during the Mardi Gras parade, three men, a young child and a woman were transported by ambulance to nearby hospitals. Police received a call reporting a shot at around 9:30 p.m., reports The Sun. Witness Stacey Morigeau stated, “I thought it sounded like 20 shots – it could have been a little less, but it was a quick shot and everyone started running.”

The parade came to a complete halt once the police began trying to control the situation. Two firearms were found at the scene of the shooting. New Orleans police are stepping up patrols in the French Quarter in an effort to reduce gun violence at festivals like parades this season. “This is really not something we wanted to see,” Ganthier said. “We really wanted this to be a safe Mardi Gras.”
