Michael Palin has announced that Michael Palin’s wife Halen has sadly died after suffering from chronic pain and kidney failure, just weeks after their 57th wedding anniversary. The 79-year-old actor confirmed the devastating news in a post shared on his official website on Tuesday, announcing that Helen had died in the early hours of the morning.

He described her as the “foundation of my life” and said her death was an “indescribable loss” for him and his three children: Thomas, 54, William, 52 and Rachel, 48. The Monty Python star recounted how Helen had been suffering from chronic pain for some years before and had been diagnosed with kidney failure before her death.

Michael Palin’s wife Helen cause of death

The childhood sweethearts met when they were 16 and later married in 1966, marking their 57th wedding anniversary weeks before Helen passed away. Announcing the news on his blog, Michael shared a selfie of them together and wrote: ‘My dear wife Helen passed away peacefully in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

She had been suffering from chronic pain for several years, which was exacerbated a few years ago by a diagnosis of kidney failure. “We met on a summer holiday on the Suffolk coast when we were both sixteen and got married when we were twenty. Two and a half weeks ago we celebrated our 57th wedding anniversary.

“Their death of her is an indescribable loss to me, our three children and four grandchildren. ‘Helen was the cornerstone of my life. Her silent and wise judgment informed all my decisions and her humor and good practicality were at the heart of our life together. “The family asks that her privacy be respected at this time.”

Last September, Michael opened up about Helen’s failing health when he shared that she had been moved into respite care from the home they had shared for 50 years.
