A Texas man allegedly strangled his mother to death after she refused to let him drive her car, Houston police said. Miroslav Liliev Mishev 30, is charged with one count of capital murder in the death of Lilia Misheva, 69. Her body was discovered in an apartment on Stella Link Road during the early morning hours of March 2, according to the Houston Police Department. According to HPD, the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences determined that Misheva was killed by strangulation.

Specific details about the investigation resulting from the murder are still scant, but police allege that Misheva was killed in direct response to the dispute that allowed her son access to her car.

“Further investigation determined that Miroslav Mishev killed her mother, Misheva, after she refused to give him her car,” HPD said in a news release. “Miroslav fled the scene, taking his mother’s car, a 2015 Honda Civic, his wallet and his cell phone. He was later arrested at a traffic stop by Sutton County Sheriff’s Deputies in Sonora, Texas.”

Miroslav Liliev Mishev accused of killing his mother

Charges were filed against the defendant on March 9. Mishev is currently being held in the Sutton County Jail, more than 350 miles west of where he allegedly killed his mother. The third-party provider that provides services to law enforcement in at least 30 Lone Star State counties is currently offline, an error message says. HPD, however, included the defendant’s driver’s license photo in its press release on Friday.

According to the HPD, Mishev is charged with murder in the 183rd District Court. The file on that case has not yet been made public. The defendant and his mother have clashed in the past, and Mishev’s driving record has a couple of red flags that offer clues about the latest allegations.
