MICHIGAN – A woman reportedly said a football player raped her daughter while the other players present at the time just watched, ultimately leading to her death. Quinn Moffet , a 22-year-old University of Dayton student, was discovered dead in the bathroom of her boyfriend’s home, and authorities suspect she accidentally overdosed on drugs in January 2021.

Moffett’s mother, Mary, said her death stemmed from the night she was allegedly raped by a University of Michigan football player in the summer of 2018. Just two months after Moffett’s death, the case was abandoned and the accused player was not questioned.

At around 2 a.m. the night the alleged rape occurred, Moffett and two of the football player’s friends returned to her friend’s apartment. They had shots and drank from a dark bottle that one of them provided, according to USA Today. That was the last thing Moffet remembered of that night. According to her friend, she was in bed with the jock, who was naked and had her arm around her. She added that Moffett said that she felt sick after the alleged encounter.

Quinn Moffet raped by a player

According to her text messages, Moffett woke up the next morning at her house with no shoes or bag and no recollection of how she got there. Mary believes that the soccer player sexually assaulted her daughter in front of her friends.

The other two witnesses were never contacted, and a fourth person, who was supposedly invited that night but was turned away at the door by friends of hers, was never questioned. Moffett’s friend strongly believed that she was drugged and sexually assaulted, which caused her mental health problems to worsen. She started experimenting with drugs and hurt herself.

Nearly three weeks after Moffett’s death, Mary wrote a letter to University of Michigan athletic director Warde Manuel and football coach Jim Harbaugh on January 21, 2021. The letter read, “I am writing to you as a mother who is grieving the loss of her 22-year-old daughter. I am writing to tell you this as a Michigan football player is partially responsible for her death,” reported USA Today.

The letter added: “Whatever happened in 2018 was the catalyst for much of the pain, sadness and depression that took away the beautiful light that she was from her and left her struggling so much over the past few years.”

After receiving the letter, Harbaugh called Mary and told her that he “didn’t want that kind of person on his team or representing the school.” He told her to call him if she found out the player’s name and gave him her phone number. Her letter eventually went to the university’s campus police, the Ann Arbor Police Department and the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office, according to The Mirror.

Despite the fact that the police officers did not even speak to the suspects, Mary reportedly said that just two months later, the police dropped the case. With the victim dead, they decided not to investigate further, according to reports. After the accused footballer went to another university, the school refused to conduct an internal investigation and avoided speaking with him.

Attorney Cari Simon, who defends sexual assault survivors, called the decision to dismiss the lawsuit “troubling.” She told USA Today: “Saying, ‘We can’t do anything about it because she died,’ that’s a pretty troubling mechanism for getting a case dismissed,” adding: “Is that somewhere you’d feel comfortable going on?” with your education, knowing that this is what happened, and that the school did nothing?

Mary concluded her letter by saying, “The University of Michigan can and must do better. It’s too late for my precious daughter, but on behalf of all the young women on campus and in the community, I urge you to DO MORE.”Read More……
