The body of an Ohio man Ryan Ehrnschwender was pulled from Lake Powell in Utah on Thursday after he jumped off a 50-foot cliff and never surfaced again, according to authorities. The National Park Service responded to a call of a possible death around 11:45 a.m. at the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area in Kane County, the agency said in a news release.

Witnesses told authorities the man, identified as 36-year-old Cincinnati native Cory Ryan Ehrnschwender, had jumped 50 feet into the water but was unable to return to the surface. Glen Canyon National Recreation Area rangers, the Utah Department of Natural Resources and the Kane County Sheriff’s Office conducted an initial search, but it was unsuccessful.

Ehrnschwender’s body was located in about 30 feet of water the next morning at 10:20 a.m. by the Utah Department of Public Safety Dive Team using sonar equipment, the park service said.

The Utah State Medical Examiner will perform an autopsy in Salt Lake City to determine the cause of death, according to the agency. “Persons amusing themselves in or around Lake Powell are cautioned that jumping or diving from rocky cliffs, ledges, or man-made structures (excluding boats) from a height of 15 feet or more from the surface of the water is prohibited,” the agency warned.Read more…….
