OKLAHOMA: An Oklahoma teacher has been taken into custody after she was charged with several felonies, including allegedly harassing, grooming and soliciting sex from underage male students using social media apps. Serena Faith Merrill Cator, an employee at McLoud High School, was arrested on March 16.

The 43-year-old man faces three counts of soliciting sexual conduct with minors through the use of technology. The teacher has been accused of engaging in inappropriate sexual conversations with underage male students between the ages of 14 and 18, sending and requesting nude photos of at least three of the 10 victims. Cator reportedly admitted to authorities that two of the male victims had previously dated her daughter, Law and Crime reported.

Serena Cator accused of minor sex

In November 2022, school administrators launched an investigation into Cator’s conduct after a parent reported that her daughter informed him that the teacher had engaged in sexual relations with some of her classmates. Following the report, Cator signed a statement that revealed that she “willingly admitted that she has been sending and receiving lewd and indecent messages and images to several of her male students.”

Cator reportedly said that she believed mental illness was the cause of her difficulty separating reality from her and dreams from her and she understood that she needed help. The accused teacher, who provided a written list of 10 victimized male students, was fired from her job in December 2022.

According to investigators, before messaging her victims through various social media apps, primarily Snapchat, Cator reached out to her victims in person. She tried to establish a personal relationship with the mothers of the victims she allegedly stalked by sending them pictures of her children participating in sporting events or being in class.

The affidavit reportedly read, “[Cator] told the parents how well she was doing each of the children.” After Cator was detained, she refused to answer questions related to the allegations of illegal sexual activity and hired a lawyer.
