Devastated friends have paid tribute to a ‘wonderful’ gym worker who was found dead by police yesterday after her car was discovered abandoned. Thea Newton, 29, was last seen around 1.30am yesterday at her Warrington home address and Cheshire Police have confirmed they have found a body in their search for her, it is believed which is Mrs. Newton. Her closest relatives have been informed.
Since news broke of her death last night, hundreds of people have paid tribute to Ms Newton on Facebook, saying she died “too soon”. Her friend Alex Standring posted on social media the caption “absolutely devastated”.

One person said: ‘So many young lives are being lost, how can you even begin to make sense of it all? Heartbreaking news, my thoughts are with his family and friends. Another person commented: ‘So sad she was my good friend and I can’t believe it, I’m still in shock. Thank you for being my friend and I will miss you.’
Ms Newton, who is originally from Clitheroe, worked at Absolute Fitness in Clitheroe and her friend Alex said: “I’ve known Thea for a long time and would always see her at the gym.” ‘She was amazing with my brother who has moderate special needs and kept an eye on him.
‘Thea was a wonderful person and I am thinking of her close friends and family. It was a shock to all of us. Her car was found parked near Sunflower Drive and officers, along with a rescue team, searched the area. Police also searched the Trans Pennine Trail and surrounding areas in Warrington.

Police had previously asked for the public’s help in tracking down Ms Newton, saying they were “increasingly concerned” for her well-being. Inspector Daniel Richardson said before her discovery: “We are increasingly concerned for her well-being and are currently searching for her.”
‘If she is on the Trans Pennine Way and you see a woman who fits this description, please contact us. “Her family of hers and friends of hers are extremely concerned about her and just want her to come home safely. “I would also appeal directly to Thea, please let us know that she is okay, we are all very concerned about you and want you to return to her family.”
