A 20-year-old woman died after falling from a posh boutique hotel in midtown Manhattan and a 24-year-old man Tyler Griffin was taken into custody. Police responded to a 911 call of an assault in progress at the Oyo Hotel in Times Square at 157 West 47th Street Tuesday night. When officers arrived around 10:27 p.m. m., the young woman was discovered on the second floor scaffolding outside the hotel, unconscious and unresponsive.

When emergency personnel arrived, the young woman was pronounced deceased. Police are investigating whether the woman fell or was pushed out of the building. An NYPD spokesperson told DailyMail.com that “additional investigations determined that a 24-year-old woman and man had an altercation in a hotel room where a one-year-old child was present.”

Tyler Griffin arrested as suspected

The 24-year-old was identified as Tyler Griffin of Littleton, Colorado. He was taken into custody and arrested on charges of assault, reckless endangerment and acting in a manner harmful to a child under the age of 17, the spokesperson said. Authorities said the girl’s identity has not yet been released until next of kin have been notified. Griffin was described as being in an emotionally disturbed state and had to be electrocuted with a taser in the hotel lobby while being taken into custody.

He was then transported to Bellevue Hospital. The baby was found unharmed, given to a stranger during the ordeal and then taken to the hospital for evaluation, police said. Police could not confirm what the relationship between Griffin and the woman was or if either of them were the parents of the baby.

An NYPD spokesperson told DailyMail.com that a preliminary investigation determined that the woman’s injuries are indicative of a fall from an elevated position. The city’s medical examiner’s office has yet to determine the manner and cause of death. No other details are available at this time.

Police received multiple calls about a disturbance in a room on the 10th floor of the Times Square Hotel and then a call about a jump from the roof, according to NBC4 News. Police found Griffin in the room where the 20-year-old woman was staying. Authorities said the room had been vandalized, as if there had been some sort of altercation between the couple.

Although an NYPD spokesperson did not provide further details, according to the news outlet, police are now looking into the possibility that Griffin attacked the woman before she jumped.
