NORTH CAROLINA: Two North Carolina State University students have reportedly committed suicide within 24 hours, according to the institution, bringing the total number of student suicides this academic year to seven. A death was discovered Wednesday night, April 25, when campus police were searching for a student who had messaged someone that he intended to end his life, according to university spokeswoman Lauren Barker. . The announcement of the second fatality occurred on the afternoon of Thursday, April 27, while the students were still processing the first death. Barker did not reveal the identity of the second student in an email; instead, she just wrote: “Since we spoke, another student was found dead by apparent suicide on campus today.” According to Barker, 14 North Carolina State students have died since August of various causes.
The incidents, according to university chancellor Randy Woodson, were “heartbreaking,” he said in a statement to students Thursday afternoon. He wrote: “Please take good care of yourselves, keep an eye on each other and be aware of those around you who may need help.
