ANCHORAGE, ALASKA – Anchorage police have issued an Amber Alert in an effort to find missing eight-month-old girl Ahmiri Chaney. The missing baby was allegedly kidnapped by her father, Eric Chaney Jr. However, a woman, with upper body trauma, was found dead in the home when police arrived.

The 23-year-old alleged kidnapper is described as BLACK, 5 feet 8 inches tall and approximately 150 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. Additionally, Eric was reportedly last seen wearing a dark ski mask, a light colored, white or brown and blue hoodie. The sweatshirt has the Chicago Cubs logo on the sleeves and dark pants, according to Alaska News.

Ahmiri is an 8-month-old boy who has been missing in Anchorage, Alaska since Monday, February 17. The boy is described as an Alaska Native boy with brown hair and brown eyes. When Anchorage police sent out the Amber Alert, APD Director of Community Relations Sunny Guerin said, “When Amber Alerts are sent out, APD sends out a request. We don’t actually send out Amber Alerts, and when we ask for them, we’re exhausting every lead, every effort to locate the child, and then when those efforts are exhausted, we’re moving forward with issuing Amber Alerts and more by asking for help from the public and locate the child,” Guerin said. “In the last two years, this is the first one we’ve aired in Anchorage,” according to the Alaska News.

At 8:57 a.m. on February 17, 2023, Anchorage Police were dispatched to the 6000 block of E 12th Avenue in reference to a homicide. When officers arrived, they found a deceased adult victim with upper body trauma. The Crime Scene Team has responded to process the scene. There will be a continued police presence in the area as the investigation continues,”

Anchorage police stated. Police also added: “Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Ahmiri Chaney or Eric Chaney Jr., including surveillance footage of the area, You are asked to contact Police Dispatch at 9-1-1 or (907)786-8900 (option #0). Police are currently following up on leads and there is no further information to release at this time.”
