RHODE ISLAND: Providence Friars guard Alyn Breed has been suspended indefinitely by Providence College after his arrest on Saturday, April 1. The guard was charged with various crimes in connection with a domestic violence incident that occurred off campus.

The Powder Springs, Georgia native, Breed played in 32 games for the Friars last season and was expected to contribute to the team in 2023-24, but his college future is now in question. He has played for Providence in 88 total games since the start of the 2020-21 season, starting 30 of them, according to Sports Illustrated.

Alyn Breed suspended from team

Providence, Rhode Island police charged Breed, 22, with “numerous firearms offenses” as well as breaking and entering, robbery, damage and theft of another person’s car without his consent, according to Providence Journal. In addition to the aforementioned charges, Breed is also accused of brandishing a weapon on his girlfriend, according to local network WPRI-TV. The 6-foot-3 junior is no longer listed on the Friars’ official roster after putting up 4.8 points and 2.4 rebounds this season.

The school released a statement saying, “Alyn Breed was charged with multiple counts for actions that occurred off campus on Saturday, April 1. As a result of these charges, Athletic Director Steve Napolillo and Head Coach Kim English determined that Breed He’s suspended from the men’s basketball team.”

The statement continued: “[He] will not be able to participate in any other activities related to the athletic department. [Providence] will continue its student conduct disciplinary process regarding this matter. At this time, there will be no further comment.”
