In a heartbreaking update on the search for a missing seven-year-old girl, police have found her body. Athena Strand reportedly disappeared on November 30 from her father’s home in Paradise, Texas, prompting a frantic search for her. However, it was eventually discovered that a FedEx driver, named Tanner Lynn Horner, had killed her after kidnapping her.

According to Texas Sheriff Lane Akin, the boy’s remains were found in Wise County on Friday, December 2, after hours of searching. The 31-year-old suspect was also reportedly detained on charges of capital murder and aggravated kidnapping. Bail for him was set at $1.5 million, The Sun reported.

During a press conference on Friday night, Akin said: “We want to send our condolences to the family of Athena Strand. Her body was recovered about two hours ago, maybe three. It hurts our hearts to know that this child died.” It has been reported that Horner was delivering a package to the victim’s house when he carried out the evil act on her. Shortly after allegedly abducting the girl in the driveway about 200 yards from her residence, the suspect took her life.

As The Independent reported, the bailiff explained: “They [the investigation team] were able to determine that the driver kidnapped Athena and from an investigative point of view, both digitally and from good old interviews, we believe that Athena died in just an hour or so after your departure from home.”

Akin stated: “This driver is a contract driver…he is from Lake Worth. We can’t really get into the content of the confession, but I will say that we have a confession. It’s still very, very early, but we wanted to make sure we got the information,” before mentioning Strand’s family. He added: “The vast majority of the family is from Oklahoma, and they appreciated the fact that we cared so much. They are devastated, they are angry about what happened. A precious child taken from their lives.”

This comes nearly a day after the girl’s mother took to Facebook asking people for help locating her daughter. Maitlyn Presley Gandy shared: “Athena is still missing and we are now at the 24 hour point. Thank you to my wonderful family and the great support of the Wise County community. We continue our search. I ask all of you to pray…pray some more, keep praying and never stop praying. I can’t live without my baby and I need her brought home safe and sound. Athena did not walk away or disappear alone.

I will not give up or stop until I get Athena back. I feel like there is a hole in my heart and half of my soul is missing. An amber alert was issued today. Please don’t give up on my baby. Thank you all for the messages and calls of support.
