Following the incident, Gualdino, who sustained head and body injuries, was rushed to Jacobi Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead. The identity of the BMW driver has not been revealed as he is a minor. The driver is a student from a local private school who only possessed a learner’s permit that he received less than three weeks ago. The teen is currently in critical condition. The car reportedly belonged to his relative.
According to a Facebook post from the police department, Mayor Mike Spano said, “Our hearts are heavy as the City of Yonkers has experienced an insurmountable loss. Sergeant Frank Gualdino was a cop and the epitome of Yonkers Finest. Yonkers is a tight-knit community, and when we lose a member of our law enforcement community, we all grieve. Frank was someone we all knew and loved. He was a friend and a family man, the best of all of us and the best in Yonkers. May God protect Frank on his final journey and watch over his wife Lisa and his children Emily and Mark. Rest easy, Frank. You are Yonkers Strong.”

Sergeant Frank Gualdino’s car was struck by a teenager in a BMW, who lost control and plunged into oncoming traffic before crashing into the police car and then into an occupied Westchester County Bee-Line bus, authorities said according to the NY Post.
The multi-vehicle car accident is still under investigation by the Yonkers Police Department, and police reportedly stated that examination of the accident would include the possibility of criminal charges.
