CALIFORNIA: Bob Lee, the founder of Cash App and former Square CTO, was fatally stabbed early Tuesday morning near downtown San Francisco, according to reports. According to the San Francisco Police Department, officers responded to a report of a stabbing around 2:35 a.m. m. Tuesday.
Police reported that they discovered a 43-year-old man who appeared to have been stabbed. The man was taken to a nearby hospital in a life-threatening condition, where he ultimately died, according to police. San Francisco police have not released any details about the suspect, according to reports.

Often called “Crazy Bob,” the IT whiz previously served as Square’s CTO and was a software developer for Google. Lee also contributed to the creation of the fundamental libraries of Android. The businessman owned shares in SpaceX and posted a video of the launch of the Tranche 0 satellite on April 2. He ended up being the last tweet from him on Twitter. According to his MobileCoin bio, he also helped the World Health Organization with their mobile app during the Covid-19 pandemic. After founding the Presente social network, Lee invested in companies like Figma, Clubhouse, Beeper, and Faire.
Following Lee’s death, tributes have poured in from across the IT industry. Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey credited Lee with being “instrumental” in the creation of CashApp, writing, “Bob was instrumental to Square and Cash App.” His death is “heartbreaking,” he added, as reported by Investing.com. Joshua Goldbard, CEO of MobileCoin, said: “Bob was a force of nature. He helped birth Android and CashApp into our world. Moby was his dream: a privacy-protecting wallet for the 21st century. The CEO of cryptocurrency platform Abra, Bill Barhydt, tweeted: “He (Bob) was a generous and decent human being who did not deserve to be killed.” Meanwhile, tech entrepreneur Greg Osuri said the industry had “lost one of the best.” No one has been arrested in connection with Lee’s death thus far.
