California resident Felicia Johnson, 24, is dead and agents say they found her remains on February 7, 2023 in Montgomery County, Texas. Officials announced Monday that these belonged to Johnson. The search for her alleged killer continues. Police in Houston, Texas, said in June that they believe Chukwuebuka Nwobodo murdered her. Johnson was last seen at 14935 South Richmond Avenue, the address of Nwobodo’s apartment, on April 16, officers said. She was reported missing earlier that day from the InterContinental Houston – Medical Center hotel, they said.

“The report was made after her cell phone, covered in blood, was found off the road at Bear Creek Pioneers Park near the 6 Freeway and Clay Road,” police wrote. “Further investigation revealed that Johnson left the hotel in a vehicle in the early morning hours of April 16.”

Officers say he picked up Johnson from an apartment complex at 3233 Windchase Boulevard. She took her to her apartment at 14935 South Richmond Avenue. There is evidence that she killed her in her apartment and then disposed of her personal effects at Bear Creek Pioneers Park in Houston, officials said. Officials said they believed he disposed of her body in the next few days.

Chukwuebuka Nwobodo accused of killing missing woman

The search for Johnson reached a pivotal development on February 7. It was that day that possible human bones were found, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office said. Agents responded to the Sam Houston National Forest near Flamingo Lakes Road and Highway 149.

“It was determined that the remains were, in fact, human, and samples were sent for DNA analysis and dental records,” the agents said. “It is with a heavy heart that we report that dental records have confirmed the human remains to be those of missing person Felicia Johnson of California. Our hearts go out to Johnson’s family and friends and we hope this brings them closure.”

Judge Wayne L. Mack, Justice of the Peace for Precinct 1 in Montgomery County, told Law & Crime by phone that these were “portions” of Johnson’s body, and that they belonged to his upper torso. There is no formal determination of the cause and manner of death at this time, but the presumptive determination of the manner of death is homicide, he said.
