During an online party with friends on January 5, 17-year-old Elijah Sierocki uttered a sentence that, in the context of the game, was commonplace and innocent: “I killed two people.” Unfortunately, he had pocket dialed 911 immediately prior to the victorious statement and a dispatcher on the other end of the line apparently believed they were privy to a double murder confession.
“I was sitting on my couch playing Rainbow Six Siege with my two best friends, Tyler and Devan, and all of a sudden, we were in the middle of a game and I killed two people, got two kills, and then I died,” Sierocki told Sam. Law&Crime’s Goldberg in an exclusive podcast interview for After Hours earlier this week. “So, I took my phone to watch TikTok, that’s what I used to do when I died, and I see a call on my phone. It’s 911. In his interview with Law & Crime, the teen said that he believes the call was made by the iPhone’s emergency call feature that occurs when the volume button and power button are pressed simultaneously. I started freaking out,” Sierocki continued.
He asked his friends what to do. They said to call the number back, but he decided against it. So, the dispatchers made the following decisions. “I got three calls from dispatch trying to call me to find out what’s going on,” the teen continued. “And in no more than two minutes my dogs start barking at the front door. And they are pretty smart dogs. So, they barked at the front door and ran to me on the couch in the other room and ran back to the front door.”

Then Sierocki, like any good Rainbow Six player faced with an array of weapons, looked out and took in the potentially hostile landscape. “There are four police squad cars out there,” he told Law & Crime. He realized that the 911 call had lasted about four minutes, during which time he had certainly talked about those two digital deaths.
“I have two decisions: either I stay inside and they knock on the front door or I go out with my hands up,” Sierocki recalled. “So, I’m like, ‘If I walk outside with my hands up, what’s going to go wrong?'” As he was walking outside, he said, he noticed one of the deputies to the right of him pointing a gun at him.
“It scares me,” Sierocki said. “Because he jumped a little.” Sierocki’s Ring doorbell camera caught the interaction between him and cops on his own front porch. In the footage, the teen can be seen walking out the front door with his hands raised before cautiously approaching police. Video of the incident was shared by a friend and has since gone viral:
During the ensuing encounter, the teen said he was questioned about what was really going on, patted down, and asked to place his hands behind his back, all with a gun still pointed at him. And, meanwhile, Sierocki said, he was “visibly shaking a lot.”
In an email, a spokesperson for the Boone County Sheriff’s Office said they “would need to obtain more information about the incident before commenting” and that they were “in the process of collecting body camera video in response to a request of open records”.
