A mother and her two children who died in a house fire have been photographed for the first time, as the man believed to be their father fights for his life in hospital. Gemma Germeney, 31, her daughter Lilly Peden, eight, and son Oliver Peden, four, were killed in the fire that tore through the family’s two-story Cambridge duplex in the early hours of Friday morning.

A man in his 30s, whose name has not yet been identified, escaped the burning property but remains in critical condition at Addenbrooke Hospital.

He is believed to be Ms. Germeny’s partner, Scott Peden, who is the father of her two children. His two dogs are also believed to have perished in the fire. Locals described hearing screams as flames burst from the windows of the family’s home in Sackville Close, in the King’s Hedges area of Cambridge.

The alarm was raised when the fire started shortly after 1 a.m. Friday, but details of the deaths were released yesterday. Police kept the scene of the tragedy cordoned off while officers, along with the fire service, tried to establish the cause of the fire. Around 30 firefighters, including teams from Cambridge, Cottenham, Cambourne, Linton, Burwell and Huntingdon, were involved to help battle the flames.
