A man who claimed to identify himself as a woman in an attempt to justify a sexual assault in a train station bathroom has been jailed. Ian Bullock attacked the woman in the toilets at Birmingham New Street station on March 21 last year while she was washing her hands, after he entered the women’s toilets wearing a high-visibility vest around 7am.
After her victim emerged from a cubicle, Bullock, 39, approached her and leaned in, before sexually assaulting the woman, British Transport Police (BTP) said on Tuesday.
The woman challenged Bullock and he left in silence, before attempting to disguise himself by removing his high-visibility vest and putting on a beanie. BTP officers were called and he was later arrested at the scene. During an interview with police, Bullock claimed that the reason he was in the baths was because he now identified as a woman.

On December 12 last year, Bullock, of Stratford Road, Birmingham, was convicted on one count of sexual assault at Birmingham Magistrates Court. On February 7 at Birmingham Crown Court, Judge Heidi Kubik KC jailed him for 16 months.
Detective Inspector Ian Wright said: “Bullock is a dangerous individual who deliberately changed his clothes that morning to loiter in the women’s toilets undetected and launch this vile and premeditated attack on the victim in a space where she had all the right to feel safe. in.
“I would like to commend the bravery of the victim, who, faced with an unimaginably horrifying situation, immediately challenged Bullock and reported what had happened to station staff, meaning officers were able to quickly arrive and arrest him on scene. “We are absolutely determined to eradicate sexual crime from the rail network and in this case Bullock deserves every day of the prison sentence he has been given.”
Bullock was also subject to a 10-year sexual harm prevention order and required to join the sex offender registry for the same period.
