Terry Beaton has been charged after he was allegedly found with a revolver said to be linked to the murder of a mother of two who was taken hostage at his home. A woman who lives near where the hostage taking took place described the scene as a terrorist attack. She said: ‘After many hours of talking between the police and a man, I heard loud gunshots and what sounded like six shots. The scene was horrible. I’ve never seen anything like it around here. I thought it must be related to terrorism.

She later discovered that a double pane window had been shattered in a bedroom in her house and that there was a “bullet” embedded within the outer and inner pane. The woman added: “I stayed inside all day as I was too scared to come out in the situation. ‘It went on for hours. And then around 4:30 p.m. m., we saw a woman receiving CPR outside a garage. We still had no idea what was going on.

The incident occurred as millions of television viewers watched the coronation of King Charles III 16 miles away at Westminster Abbey. After being called to the home at 12:40 p.m., police cordoned off Priory Road and told people to stay inside their homes before officers broke down the front door of the townhouse, witnesses said.

After an hour-long standoff, ‘pandemonium’ broke out and neighbors heard what sounded like two rounds of gunfire.

A woman, who did not want to be named, described the events as “chilling”. No police weapons were fired during the confrontation. One of Ms Burke’s friends told KentLive: ‘Hayley was the loudest friend of the group and she never failed to make everyone laugh.

‘Hayley loved her children with every inch of her heart. Everything she did was for her children, they were her life. ‘Hayley would do anything for anyone, but she wasn’t afraid to tell you if you took the initiative. She was so brutally honest: it was one of her best character traits.

A couple who knew Ms Burke described her as a “lovely woman”. The 46-year-old father, who did not want to be named, said: ‘She used to work at my son’s school years ago.

I’ve known her for years. She was a beautiful girl. She’s horrible, especially at our doorstep, she scared a lot of people around here. But she’s terrible, this area has gone downhill.

And the mother, who said her children were outside of her when it happened, added: “My son, 14, recognized her and said ‘she helped me a lot.’ She always helped him and she was never rude. Another neighbor, who preferred to remain anonymous, said that he had just returned from the Coronation in the capital and found the road blocked.
