Former University of Central Florida tight end Jake Hescock died Tuesday, December 6 at the young age of 25 due to cardiac arrest while jogging in Boston, according to his family. UCF Football shared a tribute to the former TE on Facebook, saying they were “devastated” by the news.
We are devastated to learn of the passing of Jake Hescock. He was loved by everyone within Knight Nation,” they wrote. “Our deepest condolences to everyone who knew Jake. Last year, Hescock appeared in all 12 regular season games as a redshirt senior, starting three times at tight end. He spent four seasons at UCF and one under coach Guz Malzahn, who joined the Knights in 2021. Malzahn confirmed Hescock’s death on Twitter. “We are heartbroken to learn of Jake’s passing,” Malzahn said. “He was an amazing person, who embodied what it means to be a UCF Knight. Everyone who knew Jake loved him and it was a blessing to train him. He will be greatly missed. Kristi’s and my prayers are with his entire family.”
Josh Heupel, Tennessee’s current head coach, coached Hescock from the 2018-2020 seasons. “Heartbroken to hear of the death of Jake Hescock,” Heupel said. “He was an incredible teammate and person. He embodied love, joy and passion for others. My sincere condolences and prayers go out to Hescock and the UCF family.”
Danny White, the director of athletics for the Tennessee Athletics, tweeted: “God bless the Hescock family. It’s so hard to understand. Rest in peace, Jake.”
