INDIANA: An Indiana State Police officer was killed Friday when a suspect in a high-speed pursuit struck him on Interstate 69 near Auburn. The chase continued after he noticed a vehicle going at a very high speed. Apparently, before the tragic incident occurred, James R Bailey  the lead officer of the Indiana State Police, was helping other soldiers deal with a traffic jam on Interstate 69. He was close to an accident related to the weather that took place around 4:30 p.m. in the afternoon.

Bailey used stop sticks to try to stop the pursuit of the vehicle, but the statement states that he was struck by the suspect’s car and suffered serious injuries. He received immediate medical attention at the scene and was taken to a nearby hospital, where he died of his injuries. According to Indian police, the suspect was evading a Fort Wayne Police Department officer on I-69 who was approaching his location.

Bailey, a veteran, served with the Indiana State Police for more than fifteen years, according to the Chicago Tribune. “This is a tremendously sad day for the entire Indiana State Police family. We will come together as we always do to support Trooper Bailey’s family, friends and co-workers,” Indiana State Police Superintendent Douglas G Carter said in the statement.
