According to The Independent, the students had been sitting in the cupboard for around three hours before the police officer “knocked down” the door to their design and technology classroom and tried the cupboard where they were hiding. A relative of one of the students in the closet told the newspaper that she spent about another hour there before being released.

Among the parents was Michelle Smith, who was expecting her son Alex, 13, who is in his eighth grade.

Speaking outside the school, Alex said: “School had just started, we went to our first lesson and we didn’t know what was going on, but it was fine until the teacher locked the door and we were in that same lesson for four or five hours. ‘We didn’t know what was happening, but we weren’t worried, and we weren’t that scared because we were okay.

“We were in the classroom and we couldn’t really see any police cars, but when they let us go to the bathroom and we went downstairs we could see a lot of police cars and we still didn’t know what was going on and people were telling us what was going on.” was happening when we went downstairs.
